Wolfgang Schaffert (born September 11, 1948 ) is a German medic .

Life

After studying medicine , he was together with Rainald Fischer , Herbert Forster, Wolf-Dieter Hirsch, Thomas Hochholzer, Christoph Kruis, Bernhard Lauber, Gertrud Mayer, Kurt-A. Riel, Jörg Schneider, Gabriele Stadler and Walter Treibel founding member and first president of the German Society for Mountain and Expedition Medicine (BExMed). In 1998 he obtained a Diploma in Mountain Medicine .

In 2016, Wolfgang Schaffert was awarded an honorary member of the German Society for Mountain and Expedition Medicine.

Alpinism

As an alpinist, he took part in many tours in the Eastern and Western Alps, including crossing the Mont Blanc , Watzmann , Aiguille du Midi south face.

As an expedition doctor he accompanied the Swabian Himalayan expedition in 1977 to Lhotse and Dhaulagiri VII in 1978. Together with Michael Dacher , Fritz Zintl, Günther Sturm, Siegfried Hupfauer , Otto Wiedemann, Erich Reismüller and Manfred Sturm, he accepted in 1980 under the direction of Manfred Abelein of the German Tibet Expedition to Shishapangma .
