Franz Berghold

Franz Berghold (born November 22, 1948 in Mürzzuschlag ) is an Austrian doctor , mountain rescue doctor and altitude physician , court expert for alpinism and winter sports as well as mountain and ski guide in Kaprun and until 2017 head of the international courses for alpine and altitude medicine.

Life

Berghold studied medicine at the University of Graz until 1973 , after which he worked as an assistant doctor at the Salzburg State Hospitals until 1978 . He has been a mountain and air ambulance doctor since 1975. He obtained his diploma in sports medicine in 1983, that in emergency medicine in 1997 and 1998 with the Diploma for Mountain Medicine . From 1978 to 2014 he worked as a general practitioner in Kaprun. In 1988 he completed his habilitation on accident studies in sports at the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Salzburg , where he was appointed associate professor in 2001.

Since 1992 Berghold has been organizing the international courses for alpine medicine , a joint training curriculum of the German Society for Mountain and Expedition Medicine and the Austrian Society for Alpine and High Altitude Medicine, which he headed between 2014 and 2017 under the name of International Courses for Alpine Medicine gGmbH.

Alpinism

As an alpinist, he completed mountain tours of all levels of difficulty, including some first ascents in the Eastern and Western Alps. From 1967 he took part in a total of 34 non-European expeditions and mountain trips, including a. 1967 the first crossing of Svalbard, 1977 ascent of Dhaulagiri , 1979 ascent of Broad Peak . He has been a certified mountain and ski guide since 1982 .
