Wolfgang Scharf (born November 17, 1945 in Meinitz ) was a football goalkeeper in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of the GDR football association, and played there for BSG Stahl Riesa .

Scharf began playing football in Leisnig before moving to Progress Hartha in 1960 . There he guarded the goal of the first men's team in the Leipzig district league as a 17-year-old . From 1964 to 1967 he played during his military service under player-coach Harry Nippert at Dynamo Adlershof in Berlin. After his return to Hartha he was spotted by Stahl Riesa, to whom he then switched in January 1968. Goalkeeper Scharf made his debut in the Oberliga on November 2, 1968, the 12th matchday of the 1968/69 season, at the meeting 1. FC Magdeburg - Stahl Riesa (3-1), when he was substituted on in the 46th minute. He was almost 23 years old, but he had to wait until the 1972/73 season before he was back in the first team of Stahl Riesa. At that time, the team played after their relegation in 1972 in the second-rate GDR league. Riesa managed to return to the league immediately, and with the new league season 1973/74, Scharf had won a regular place with 17 point games. In the two following seasons 1974/75 and 1975/76 he was in Riesaer Tor 24 and 26 times respectively. At the beginning of the 1976/77 season Scharf was first goalkeeper again and played all league point games up to the 11th match day. From December 1976, the now 31-year-old was replaced by Rainer Köpnick , who was eight years younger . At the end of the season, Stahl Riesa rose again, and Scharf played two more point games in the GDR league in autumn 1978. In November 1978 he was drafted into the army and played during this time with the army sports community Vorwärts in Doberlug-Kirchhain .

In 1980 Scharf became assistant coach of Stahl Riesa's first team, and in 1984 he took over the training of the junior team. At the age of 64 he was still working as a supervisor at SC Riesa. He became an honorary member of the Riesa-Großenhain district football association and was awarded the district association's badge of merit in 2009 for his longstanding football commitment.
