Wolfgang Scheller (born June 21, 1947 ) is a former German soccer player. For FC Vorwärts Berlin he had two short appearances between 1967 and 1969 in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football . In 1968/69 he was part of the FCV championship team.

Athletic career

The 19-year-old Wolfgang Scheller made his debut in high-class GDR football in the 1966/67 season as a striker for the second-rate GDR league team Motor Babelsberg . Although he only played four league games for Babelsberg, he already drew attention to his goal danger with his three goals. In May 1967 Scheller was drafted into the National People's Army for 18 months . There he got the opportunity to continue playing football at the top club of the Vorwärts army sports association , FC Vorwärts Berlin. He was first used in the 2nd team, which was represented at the time in the third-class city league Berlin. Scheller completed his first games in the promotion round to the GDR league, which was unsuccessful for FCV. In the point games of the city league of the season 1967/68 Scheller was a regular and was successful as a goal scorer. At the end of the season he made his first league appearance when he was substituted on in the penultimate match day in the match between Sachsenring Zwickau and FCV (2-1) in the 75th minute. For the 1968/69 season he was included in the expanded league squad. In fact, he was only used on the 18th league game in the away game at FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt in the second half for midfielder Jürgen Nöldner . In the end, FC Vorwärts became champions, so that Scheller could also call himself a master player. As a further success this season, Scheller was able to record the promotion of the 2nd team to the GDR league. Then Scheller joined the GDR league club Post Neubrandenburg . In the remaining 21 GDR league games, he was used 20 times and with his ten goals was the top scorer of the Post team. In the five following seasons Scheller was represented with Post Neubrandenburg in the GDR league. Of the 114 league games during this period, he played 83 games and scored 26 more goals. With seven and eight goals respectively, he was again Neubrandenburg top scorer in 1971 and 1972. In his last league season 1974/75, Scheller only scored two goals and only played twelve of the 22 point games.

At the age of 28, Wolfgang Scheller ended his career as a competitive athlete, but was still active as a leisure kicker. 1983/84 appeared again with BSG Baumechanik Neubrandenburg in the GDR league. When the newcomer, who was relegated again after the season, Scheller temporarily played a league game.
