Wolfgang Schlote

Wolfgang Schlote (born August 17, 1932 in Dresden ; † April 10, 2020 ) was a German neuropathologist . From 1984 until his retirement in 2000 he was director of the Edinger Institute for Neuropathology at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main .

Life

After studying medicine at the University of Leipzig from 1950 to 1956 and obtaining a doctorate in medicine med. with the work Gliaarchitektonik der human cerebral cortex in the Nissl image , Schlote was a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Psychiatry in Munich from 1959 to 1961 , from 1961 to 1964 at the University Psychiatric Clinic in Marburg and from 1964 to 1971 scientific assistant at the Institute for Brain research at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen . In 1967 Schlote completed his habilitation in neuropathology and in 1971 became professor for submicroscopic pathology and neuropathology at the University of Tübingen. In 1984 he was appointed professor of neuropathology at the University of Frankfurt am Main. In 2001 he retired and was succeeded by Karl H. Plate as director of the Institute for Neuropathology .

From 1983 to 2001, Schlote was Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Neuropathology .

Wolfgang Schlote was married and has four daughters.
