Ernst Dietrich von Tettau (born February 20, 1716 in Tolks near Bartenstein ; † June 1, 1766 ) was a Prussian budget and war minister.

Life

Origin and family

Ernst Dietrich was a member of the Middle House Tolks of the noble von Tettau family . His father was the Hesse-Kassel major Georg Dietrich (1682–1733). He himself married Albertine Countess von Dönhoff (1715–1754) in Königsberg in 1743 .

Career

At the age of 14, Tettau began studying philosophy and law at the University of Königsberg in 1730 . In the years from 1736 to 1740 he undertook an extensive cavalier tour through Germany and for a year and a half through France , finally also to England . Back at home he became a member of the tribunal in 1740. In 1751 he was a member of the court , in 1753 chancellor and president there. He was also awarded the title of secret budget and war minister in 1753. He was also director of the Montis Pietatis (see: Monte di Pietà ). He was buried in the hereditary vault of the church in Reddenau .

In 1747 Tettau became the universal heir of the Prussian Minister of State Friedrich von Tettau , his great-uncle. In 1764 the inheritance of the important property of his wife was added. With the extensive property he inherited , he supported relatives and third parties, awarded scholarships , supported the Albertina , expanded the churches in Schönbruch and Reddenau, whose patronage he also held, was simply considered a benefactor. King Friedrich II also wrote to the Prussian government to emphasize his important services.
