Wolfgang Schmitz (born April 30, 1937 in Eschwege ) is a German geologist and politician ( CDU ) and former member of the Saxon state parliament .

Life

After graduating from high school, Wolfgang Schmitz studied geosciences with a degree in geology. From 1963 to 1965 he worked as a geologist at the Institute for Cement in Dessau . Between 1965 and 1990 he worked as a raw material geologist in the lignite industry.

Schmitz is Protestant, married and has three children.

politics

Wolfgang Schmitz has been a member of the CDU since 1966. From 1990 to 1995 he was District Administrator of the Hoyerswerda district . Between 1996 and 1999 he was a member of the Pensioners Party Germany . Schmitz was also a city councilor in Hoyerswerda . He was a member of the supervisory board of the municipal clinic and of the association assembly of the Upper Elbe Association. In addition, he was the elected representative of the city of Hoyerswerda in the municipal association “Elstertal”.

In October 1999 Schmitz was elected to the Saxon Landtag with 42.9 percent of the vote via constituency 55 (Hoyerswerda), to which he belonged for an electoral period until 2004. There he was a member of the committee for building, housing and transport as well as the committee for environmental and regional development.
