Wolfgang Schultheiss

Wolfgang Schultheiss (born March 10, 1945 in Pähl ) is a German diplomat and was ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Greece from September 8, 2005 to 2010 .

Life

After studying law at the Universities of Tübingen, Geneva and Bonn and earning a Master of Laws (LL.M.) as a James William Fulbright scholar at the University of Virginia Law School (1972), he received his doctorate in 1974 with a dissertation on the subject of " Environmental Protection and Freedom of the Seas" to Dr. jur.

After joining the Foreign Service in 1974, he worked at the embassy in Algeria (as a press and economic officer), as a member of the MBFR delegation in Vienna and at the Foreign Office in Bonn.

From 1986 to 1989 Schultheiss was Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Dominican Republic .

After being used again in the Foreign Office, he then acted from 1992 to 1996 as the Ambassador's permanent representative in Denmark . From 1996 to 2000 he was head of the Northern Europe section at the Foreign Office and then, from 1998, he was also head of the Southern Europe section of the Foreign Office.

From 2000 to 2001 Schultheiss was deputy head of the central department of the Federal Foreign Office.

Before his assignment as ambassador to Greece, he was head of the foreign department in the office of the Federal President and accompanied Federal Presidents Johannes Rau and Horst Köhler on trips abroad.
