Wolfgang Schwenk

Wolfgang Schwenk (born August 5, 1931 in Hamburg ; † May 9, 2011 in Stade ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Schwenk was a chemical aid worker, lawyer and administrative officer by profession. Before starting his political career, he had worked as a department head and councilor for the city of Stade since 1965 .

Schwenk was married three times, all marriages were divorced. He was the father of two daughters. In addition to politics, Schwenk was particularly interested in football and was active as president of the TuS Güldenstern Stade sports club from 1980 to 1995 . He was honorary president and honorary member of the association.

On June 3, 1974, he moved up for the resigned MP Hans Hermsdorf in the German Bundestag . Schwenk remained a member of the German Bundestag until 1987 and, with the exception of 1980, when he was directly elected in the constituency of Stade , was always elected to the Bundestag via the Lower Saxony state list. During his time in parliament he was, among other things, deputy chairman of the legal committee .

In addition to his parliamentary activities, Schwenk was also active in local politics. From 1981 to 1996 he was a member of the district council of the Stade district and from 1994 to 2004 the city council of Stade.

Schwenk joined the SPD in 1963. From 1970 to 1986 he was deputy district chairman of the SPD district of North Lower Saxony, then until 1989 district manager. In addition, Schwenk was a member of the Stade SPD district executive from 1977 to 1988, and from 1980 as its chairman.
