Wolfgang Smuda

Wolfgang Smuda (born August 20, 1944 ) is a former German football player who was active in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football , for SC Turbine Erfurt in the 1960s .

Athletic career

Wolfgang Smuda made his debut in the GDR league at the age of 18 on October 7, 1962 in the match on the 8th day of the match Turbine Erfurt - SC Motor Jena (2-0), when he was used for the injured defender Gerhard Franke . In his fourth league appearance in the 1962/63 season, he shot his only league goal in a 2-0 away win against SC Chemie Halle as a representative of striker Hans-Günter Schröder . After his four league games Smuda was officially included in the league squad for the 1963/64 season, but was only called up once on the 7th match day as a striker. The SC Turbine had to relegate from the league and played in 1964/65 in the second-rate GDR league . There the team immediately managed to get promoted again, in which Smuda was involved in 30 league games with seven missions and two goals. Then he only played for the 2nd team of the SC Turbine, initially in the third class district league . In 1967 he became district champion with the 2nd team of FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt (successor to SC Turbine) and rose with the team in the GDR league. There he was both 1967/68 and 1968/69 regular players. In a total of 60 league games played, he played 52 games and scored five goals in 1967/68.

When Rot-Weiß II had to relegate from the GDR league in 1969, Smuda switched to the GDR league promoted BSG Motor Nordhausen-West . After he had played 18 of the 30 league games in 1969/70, he only made four and eight appearances in the GDR league in 1970/71 and 1972/73. In the summer of 1973, at the age of 29, he resigned as a football player in GDR-wide games. Between 1962 and 1973 he had played five times in the major league and 89 times in the GDR league and had scored a major league and seven GDR league goals.
