Wolfgang Karl Sohst (born March 12, 1956 in Berlin ) is a German publisher and philosopher. In 2002 he founded the science publisher xenomoi, based in Berlin, and as a freelance philosopher publishes primarily in the fields of metaphysics and ethics .

Life

In spring 1977 Sohst joined the Berlin branch of the Action Analysis Organization (AAO), which belonged to Otto Muehl's large commune . Sohst studied law at the Free University of Berlin from 1978 to 1984 . Shortly before his first state examination, at the request of the local authority in Burgenland, Austria, he moved to where he worked in the central communal administration until 1986. In the spring of 1987 he went to La Gomera on behalf of the AAO to manage the local authority there.

When the Muehl commune disintegrated in 1991, Sohst returned to Berlin. During this time he began intensive philosophical studies. In 1994 he joined the libertarian philosophical working group MoMo Berlin, which he has been organizing since 2007. In 2002 Sohst founded xenomoi Verlag. His first monograph was published in 2010 under the title "Process ontology. A systematic outline of the origin of existence".

Publishing activity

In the early years, xenomoi Verlag's program consisted mainly of legal titles. The publisher published various Spanish legal texts on civil, tax, corporate and real estate law, whose translation and commentary was done by Sohst. Since 2005, the publishing program has been continuously expanded to include texts from classical and contemporary philosophy.

Together with the Institute for Contemporary History at the University of Vienna , Sohst has been publishing the study edition of the works of Ernst Mach under the direction of Friedrich Stadler since 2008 . He is also co-editor of the Berlin Journal of Critical Theory.

The classic authors of the publishing program also include David Hume , Henri Poincaré , Lorenz von Stein and Bertrand Russell . As contemporary authors, xenomoi publishes, among others, Rainer E. Zimmermann , Dieter Mersch , Thomas Ebke, Rüdiger Zill, Matthias Kross, Henry Staten, Karl-Heinz Adler , Gil Schlesinger (partly in philosophical editors' volumes).
