Wolfgang Trillhaas (born October 31, 1903 in Nuremberg , † April 24, 1995 in Göttingen ) was professor for practical theology and systematics in Erlangen and Göttingen.

Live and act

Wolfgang Trillhaas was born on October 31, 1903 as the son of a military pastor and a teacher in Nuremberg, the oldest of four children. Trillhaas is born into a bourgeois rich Nuremberg, former free imperial city and refuge of Protestantism, artisan "locksmith, tinsmith, wire-puller, coppersmith" ( repealed past , p. 7), at a time when the German cities did not know of any cruel destruction, into which the most inhuman atrocities of the last European war plunged them. Trillhaas attended the grammar school founded by Philipp Melanchthon in 1526 from 1913 to 1922 . From 1922 to 1925 he studied philosophy and theology at the universities of Munich, Erlangen and Göttingen, among othersAlexander Pfänder , Paul Althaus , Werner Elert , Emanuel Hirsch and Karl Barth . After passing his academic exams and after being ordained a parish priest, he went to Regensburg in 1926 and then to Erlangen in 1928, at the Trillhaas University of Trillhaas, where he received a doctorate in philosophy in 1931 with the text Soul and Religion , and in 1932 with the text Sermon and Teaching with Schleiermacher , a licentiate der Theologie, was awarded a doctorate in theology in 1944 with the writing Grundzüge der Religionspsychologie . An appointment to the University in Halle was prevented by his work with the Confessing Church . In 1945 Trillhaas became a full professor for practical theology in Erlangen. In 1946 he was appointed to Göttingen, where he taught until his retirement in 1972. In 1954 Trillhaas switched from theological practice to systematics at his own request in Göttingen. He died on April 24, 1995 in Göttingen. His grave is in Erlangen on the Neustädter Friedhof.

Wolfgang Trillhaas is not only one of the most important practical and systematic theologians, as a systematist in the dual function of ethicist and dogmatician, who not only stood in a research as well as teaching engagement with dialectical theology , but Trillhaas also let himself be from the beginning University studies in Munich to become a religious philosopher who would later have an excellent reputation. In Munich, Trillhaas received a constant interest in the phenomenon of philosophy, which is particularly relevant to the lifeworld, through his teacher, the philosopher and psychologist Alexander Pfänder , who was the head of the Munich School of Phenomenology . Referring to his work, Trillhaas published Pfänder's Philosophy of Life Aims from the estate in 1948 , to which he wrote an epilogue.
