Wolfgang W. Parth: The Last Days (3rd edition 1946)

Wolfgang Willi Parth was a soldier from 1941 to 1946, most recently a war correspondent. Before he settled in Munich as a freelance writer, he was a dramaturge, theater and literary critic and editor-in-chief of the Illustrated Revue , where some of his books were published in advance.

He describes the end of the war and the first post-war period that he experienced in Berlin in “The Last Days” (1946). He had his first major success with the autobiographical war novel "Forward, Comrades, we must go back" (1958), which was translated into various languages and reissued until the 1980s. The book is characterized by the glorification of comradeship in the war and criticism of superiors. The novel “The Great Reunion” (1961) is set in the post-war period and describes the uncovering of a war crime committed by an officer by his former subordinate.

With the novel "The Case of Barbara Gordon" (1958) Parth entered the field of criminal history. In the novel-like biography "Goethe's Christiane" (1980) he attempted a glimpse into Goethe's private life, which was continued in the "Stories of Mr. Goethe" (1981). In addition, Parth published books of anecdotes, e.g. B. About Richard Wagner and the surgeon Sauerbruch.
