The woolly hair beetles (Dasytidae) are a family of beetles from the superfamily Cleroidea , to which the best-known family beetles belong.
Anatomical features
The woolly hair beetles are anatomically a well-defined family. The body is shaggy with hair. The front hips are more or less cone-shaped hanging down. They touch on the inside. They are pivoted into the front hip cavities, which are open to the rear. The rear hips, on the other hand, are horizontal. The abdomen has six, less often five, visible belly plates ( sternites ). The tarsi are all five-limbed, the fourth limb is also clearly visible. The claw link is usually not simple, but rather toothed or provided with a pair of skin flaps. The pronotum has a sharp edge on the sides. The antennae are thread-shaped and more or less sawn. The male sexual apparatus is built relatively uniformly. The penis is a more or less curved tube that ends with one or two tips. The thin paramers arise on the ventral side and unite on the dorsal side in a more or less strongly chitinized bridge.
Biological characteristics
As far as is known, the larvae live predatory in old wood, the beetles are found on flowers. They play an important role as pollinators .
