Woodhouse ( Irish Tigh na Coille ) is a Georgian country house with about 200 hectares of land just outside the village Stradbally in Ireland County Waterford .

history

The original house was owned by the Fitzgeralds (a branch of the Desmond Geraldines ) in the first half of the 16th century and belonged to them until 1724. In 1774 it was recorded as owned by the Uniake family and, at the time of Griffith's Valuation in 1868, was owned by Robert Uniacke and was valued at £ 52 10s.

In 1855 the house was owned by a branch of the Beresford family and in 1894 the property was recorded as the seat of Robert H. Beresford . In 1906 it belonged to John Beresford and was still valued at over £ 52. In 1942, the Irish Tourist Association's census records that the owner of the house, Major Lord William Beresford , was then living in India .

In 2012, James E. Thompson , founder and head of the Crown Worldwide Group , bought the property for € 6.5 million.

The Irish National Inventory of Architectural Heritage describes the house as follows:

"Detached Torlodge with three yokes , single storey and a basement, in 1850, with two-story, rear facade with three bays to the south. Renovated and provided with new windows, around 1950, ground-level porch with flat roof and a yoke added. Currently uninhabited. Hipped slate roof with tiles , plastered chimney heads and cast iron rain gutters on wooden roof overhang. Flat bitumen cardboard roof on the vestibule with metallic rain gutters. Plastered and painted walls with plastered corner stones. Rectangular window openings with stone sills and one with plastered surrounds and lintels on consoles. Replacement window with wooden frame, around 1950. Rectangular door cutout with polished, wooden door clad with tongue and groove, around 1950. Set back from the street on the Woodhouse property at the entrance of the property with side (east) facade facing the street . "
