World University Service - German Committee

The German Committee of the World University Service (WUS) is an international, politically and denominationally non- governmental organization based in Wiesbaden , consisting of over 50 countries around the world. WUS sees itself as an international community of students, teachers and employees in the education sector that supports people working, teaching and learning in higher education. In the meantime, WUS works at all educational levels and advocates the human right to education.

The motto of the World University Service is: "If you have a good idea, you should implement it". This means realizing ideas in the field of education, offering educational policy platforms and getting involved in the development of own educational projects and programs for students and university members in Germany, but also in international educational projects. Because: International educational cooperation is also a question of solidarity. It was and is the aim of the WUS activists to stand up for the “ human right to education ”, as it was also adopted in the Lima Declaration on the initiative of the WUS. The human right to education also includes humanitarian and reconstruction aid after wars, disaster relief after earthquakes, tsunamis and floods and educational development projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

The WUS Germany is part of the international network of the World University Service created in 1920 and was re-established in 1950. At that time, after years of isolation due to the Nazi era, the WUS made it possible for German students to make international contacts again and to be accepted and recognized in the international academic community. Quite early on, in the early 1950s, the WUS concentrated primarily on strengthening the rights and educational situation of students from Africa, Asia and Latin America at German universities.

tasks

The WUS works on all educational levels and advocates the human right to education . Based on a social mandate from the universities , the WUS advocates the development of fair , social and political structures on a national and international level. He organizes seminars, creates publications and information material, does public relations work in all relevant areas , participates in campaigns in the education and development sector and runs scholarship programs .

  • Information center for education mission North-South : The core of the work is the networking of actors and the dissemination of information from the areas of development-related information work and global learning. The joint project of the federal states and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) forms an interface for the joint efforts of the federal government, the federal states, the European Union and non-governmental organizations to promote both school-based and extracurricular development-related educational work.
  • The global learning portal of the One World Internet Conference: The One World Internet Conference (EWIK) is an amalgamation of around 100 organizations and institutions that offer development education programs over the Internet. This cooperation, which has existed since 1999, has resulted in an attractive online offering structure for global learning for all age groups and educational institutions.
  • The portal German states in development policy : The portal presents the development policy goals and activities of the states. It opens a view of the diverse commitment of the German states and their will to shape politics.
  • InterCap - European CSO University Networks for Global Learning on Migration, Security and Sustainable Development in an Interdependent World: InterCap offers an after-school program for development-related education and global learning that takes into account the interests, needs and availability of teachers and individuals in teacher education and them able to deal with the topic of development step by step, through different levels of active participation.
