The Global Campaign for Education ( Global Campaign for Education ) is an international coalition of non-governmental organizations and trade unions , working for the right to education work for all.

aims

The Global Education Campaign takes the position that education is a human right and a prerequisite for combating global poverty . She is committed to achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goal "Education for All" by 2015. Central requirements are:

  • Free and good basic education for everyone.
  • The prioritization of education by the governments of poor countries.
  • Increase aid from the World Bank and rich countries in the north (the so-called first world countries ) to support national educational programs in developing countries.
  • Keeping the promise made by the German federal government to raise 0.7 percent of Germany's gross national income for development cooperation.
  • The creation of good working conditions and fair wages for teachers .

The global education campaign regularly goes public with annual worldwide action weeks. Different topics are set annually. In 2010, numerous well-known footballers, politicians and other famous personalities supported the campaign under the motto "1GOAL Education for All" for the Soccer World Cup in South Africa , including Zinédine Zidane , Cristiano Ronaldo , Pelé , Shakira , Queen Rania of Jordan , Hillary Clinton and Ban Ki-moon .

International association

The International Secretariat of the campaign sitting in Johannesburg ( South Africa ) and also operates a representative office in London ( UK ). Over 120 civil society member organizations from 100 countries are involved in the alliance. Every three years the members meet for the general assembly , which elects the board.

The German headquarters of the campaign is Berlin , the patron is Gesine Schwan . Currently ( as of April 2013 ) eleven German organizations are working together in the campaign:
