Sequana is a holding company created in 2005 by the Banque Worms Group (France). The registered office is at Av. Montaigne in the 8th arrondissement (Paris) .

history

The company Maison Worms & Cie was founded in 1848 and specialized in the import of coal. When Worms diversified in 1928 , banking operations were also started, leading to the establishment of Banque Worms in 1964 .

In 1948, Worms stopped its coal import activities and helped found Antar . In 1971 Worms entered the maritime business and founded the Compagnie Navale Worms . In 1996, Worms became the only holding company listed on the stock exchange. The following year, the group tried Pinault a takeover of Worms , which, however, by the major shareholders of Worms (founding family, AGF has been completed). In 1999, Worms & Cie took over Arjomari Prioux and began a reorientation of Arjowiggins Appelton, which was taken over 100% by an OPA in the following year . In 2004 Carbonless Europe was integrated into ArjoWiggins .

In 2005 Sequana Capital became the official name for the group "Worms & Cie" (with a new partnership agreement). In 2006 Worms exchanged shares with the company SGS (Sequana Capital has 48,448,581 shares). The Agnelli (Fiat) family increased their stake and the founding Worms family reduced theirs. In 2007 the shares were bought up by small shareholders in order to concentrate on the paper industry . The company now operates under the name Sequana .

In February 2017, Sequana had to file an application for bankruptcy protection. At the beginning of 2019, the insolvency proceedings opened in one was compulsory administration converted. The bankruptcy resulted from a legal dispute with British American Tobacco (BAT), which is based on the discharge of chemicals into US rivers in the course of paper manufacture in the 1950s to 1970s. In this context, a former subsidiary of Sequana claimed back dividends that it had paid Sequana in 2008 and 2009. Sequana has been sentenced to pay BAT $ 138.5 million and is due to be wound up in full.
