Vsevolod Fyodorovich Rudnew
Vsevolod Rudnev ( Russian Всеволод Фёдорович Руднев * August 19 jul. / 31 August 1855 greg. In Dünamünde , Governorate of Livonia , † 7 July . Jul / 20th July 1913 . Greg in Myschonki at Tula ) was a Russian naval officer .
Rudnew joined the Imperial Russian Navy . At the beginning of the Russo-Japanese War he was the captain of the cruiser Varyag . The ship, together with the Russian gunboat Korejez, was placed in the port of Tschemulpo by a superior Japanese association and asked to surrender. Rudnev decided to take up the hopeless fight. Both ships were then sunk by their crews.
Vsevolod Rudnev was awarded the St. George Medal and after the war as the first Russian with the Japanese Order of the Rising Sun excellent. He was fired after refusing to punish his sailors after the 1905 uprising and retired as a rear admiral .
