Wu Han

Wu Han ( Chinese  吳 晗 ; born August 11, 1909 in Zhejiang ; † October 11, 1969 ) was a Chinese historian and writer.

His most famous contribution is a historical article published in 1959 about the official Hai Rui , which was later processed into the stage play Hai Rui Is Relieved of his Office . In November 1965, there was a sharp criticism of this piece, signed by Yao Wenyuan , but by Mao Zedong , who felt personally attacked and thus triggered the Cultural Revolution .
