Wu Jieping

Wu Jieping ( Chinese  吴阶平 ; born January 22, 1917 in Changzhou ; † March 2, 2011 ) was a Chinese doctor and politician.

Life

He studied medicine in Beijing and 1947-1948 at the University of Chicago .

He was a specialist in urology and performed the first kidney transplant in the People's Republic of China in 1960 . He worked at the Department of Urology at Peking University . In 1981 he was elected a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences . He was the author of numerous books, including on topics of sex education.

From 1992 to 2002 he was chairman of the Society of September 3rd ( Chinese  九三学社 , Pinyin Jǐusān Xuéshè ), a Chinese bloc party . At that time he was also a vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress .
