Wuilker Faríñez Aray (born February 15, 1998 in Caracas ) is a Venezuelan football goalkeeper who has been in the squad of the Colombian first division club Millonarios FC since the beginning of 2018 . The multiple Venezuelan youth international was called up for the first time in the senior national team of his home country in April and May 2015 at the age of 17 .

Life & Career

Club career

Faríñez was born in 1998 to Luis Henrique Faríñez and María Soto in the Venezuelan capital Caracas and grew up in the neighborhoods Nuevo Horizonte and Gramoven in the Parroquia Sucre administrative unit in the north of Caracas. After he was registered with a club by his parents at the age of seven, his father saw him for the first time as a striker in a game against Deportivo Gulima . Initially trained as an offensive player, his talent as a football goalkeeper was quickly recognized and he was trained in this position from then on. During his youth, he was among other things in the offspring of Nueva Esparta (in the Venezuelan state of the same name ) and Family Club . After he was observed at a youth game by scouts for the record champions FC Caracas , he signed a contract in the youth division of Los Rojos del Avila on September 22, 2011 in the presence of his parents at the age of 13 , for which he will henceforth be part of the U-14 team was used.

Like other players from the Barrio Gramoven, such as Emilio Rentería and Cristian Cásseres , Faríñez also made the leap into professional football over the years. In 2013, when he was 15, he was brought into the professional squad of FC Caracas for the first time, with the then U-16 Caracas junior player signing his first professional contract on June 12, 2013, which ran until May 2016. As a youngster, he took part in various tournaments in Spain , Brazil (Torneo Efipan 2012) and Venezuela and often appeared as team captain . He also took part in a training camp at Real Madrid that was organized and financed by Harina PAN this year ; there, among other things, a comparison was made with the multiple Venezuelan international Renny Vega .

On October 1, 2014, Faríñez made his professional debut in the first leg of the first leg of the 2014 Copa Venezuela , when he was used under Eduardo Saragó at the Estadio Alfredo Simonpietri against second division FC Arroceros de Calabozo and had to concede two goals in a 2-2 draw. The team retired early from the current cup competition after a 3-2 defeat in the second leg. Furthermore, from 2014 he was briefly under Polin Paez in the B-team of FC Caracas with play in the Tercera División de Venezuela , to which the team had been relegated the previous season. After training with the Venezuelan senior team and the unexpected call-up to the Venezuelan squad for the Copa America 2015 , Faríñez made his debut in the top football league in his home country on his return . He is in the Torneo de Adecuación 2015 in front of the six years older Yhonattan Yústiz as the first goalkeeper in the professional squad of FC Caracas. As only one of two goalkeepers in the squad, he made his league debut on July 12, 2015 in a clear 4-0 win over Tucanes de Amazonas . He then quickly advanced to become a regular in the professional team by compensating for the departure of regular goalkeeper and new international Alain Baroja and also leaving his six-year-old goalkeeper colleague behind. To date (as of August 14, 2015) he has made six appearances in the Primera División de Venezuela, in which he only conceded two goals and has remained undefeated to date. At the beginning of 2018 he moved to Millonarios FC in Colombia.

National team career

In 2015, Faríñez was called up for the first time in the U17 national team of his home country for the U17 South American Championship 2015 in Paraguay . He retired with the team under Ceferino Bencomo after a fourth place in the group stage of Group A from the current tournament and was himself a regular goalkeeper in all four games of his team, where he had to accept a total of eight goals. Due to his talent, he did not remain hidden from those responsible for the Venezuelan senior national team and was called up for the first time on May 12, 2015. He was selected by national coach Noel Sanvicente in an early 30-man squad for the Copa America 2015 and was then also in the final 23-man squad in his home country . During the tournament, which ended the team prematurely as group D, he was behind Alain Baroja and before Dani Hernández, who was active in the Spanish second division , as a substitute goalkeeper, although he was on the bench in all three games of his team, but not was used. Noel Sanvicente in particular, who himself coached FC Caracas for years, praised the committed young goalkeeper and predicted a successful future for him.
