The Wulfen Hauswurz or Wulfens Hauswurz ( sempervivum wulfenii ) is a plant of the genus Houseleeks in the family of Crassulaceae (Crassulaceae). The specific epithet honors Franz Xaver Freiherr von Wulfen .
description
Sempervivum wulfenii grows with open rosettes from 4 to 5 (rarely up to 10) centimeters in diameter, which develop a few to 10 centimeters long sturdy runners . The oblong spatulate leaves are grayish green to blue-green and often dark purple at their base. Your slightly glauke leaf blade is 20 to 40 millimeters long and 10 to 15 millimeters wide. Their edges are slightly curved inwards towards the tip. The leaf margin has strong glandular ciliate, but the upper part is often bare. For protection, the inner rosette leaves are often closed in a conical shape, which is particularly pronounced in this species.
The flower shoots reach a length of 10 to 30 centimeters. The compact zymous inflorescence consists of three short coils. The flowers are ten to eighteen, usually they show 13 to 16 petals. Their pointed sepals are occasionally pointed purple. They are about 6 millimeters long and grown together to about 2 millimeters. The lemon yellow, tapering petals are linear to lanceolate and about 10 millimeters long and 1 to 2 millimeters wide. They have a purple spot at their base. The stamens are purple to reddish-purple, sometimes purple-green, the anthers are yellow. The stylus is about 2 millimeters long and pale lemon yellow. The small nectar flakes are square.
The chromosome number is .
Systematics and distribution
Sempervivum wulfenii is distributed in the Eastern Alps in Switzerland , Italy , Austria and Slovenia at altitudes of 450 to 2700 meters. The species avoids calcareous soils. The atypical low growth places can be found in the extreme east of the distribution.
It was first described in 1831 by Franz Karl Mertens and Wilhelm Daniel Joseph Koch .
The following subspecies are distinguished:
- Sempervivum wulfenii subsp. juvanii (Strgar) C.Favarger & J.Parn. : This subspecies has hairy leaf surfaces and is found in Slovenia on the Donačka Gora .
- Sempervivum wulfenii subsp. wulfenii : This subspecies has smooth leaf surfaces and inhabits the above-mentioned area with the exception of Slovenia.
