The Wumeng Mountains or Wumeng Shan ( Chinese  乌蒙山 , Pinyin Wūméng Shān ) is an approx. 250 km long and an average of approx. 2,400  m high mountain range on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau in northeastern Yunnan and running from northeast to southwest West of Guizhou in southwest China . It is predominantly formed by Paleozoic limestone .

The mountains form the watershed between the Jinsha Jiang (the upper reaches of the Yangtze ) and the Beipan Jiang . In the north it runs on the border of the provinces of Yunnan and Guizhou, in the south it extends to the area of Kunming , the capital of Yunnan. Higher peaks are the Jiucai Ping (2,900.6 m, the highest point in Guizhou ) in the border area of Liupanshui and Hezhang County in Guizhou Province, and the Shiyan Jian (3,806 m) in the south of Huize County in Yunnan Province. There are many pools and deep valleys in the mountains. It is crossed by the Niulan Jiang , Xiao Jiang , Pudu He , Nanpan Jiang and Beipan Jiang rivers. Important traffic connections are the new Shui-Bai Railway (from Shuicheng to Baiguo ) and the Guiyang-Kunming Railway ( Gui-Kun tielu ).

Sights of the mountains are the Beipan Jiang Canyon, the Biyundong limestone cave group, the "Gold Basin" natural bridge, the Ale He River , the fossil Triassic fauna community of Pan County or the paleolithic cave site of the Dadong Cave in Pan County. In the mountain area of ​​Wumeng Shan in Liupanshui there is a state geopark opened in September 2005 .
