Beautifully magnificent

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Beautifully magnificent is a German Marian song .

history

It was probably created between the beginning and the middle of the 17th century in Austria using an elegy ascribed to Laurentius von Schnüffis ( Mirantische Mayen = Pfeiff , 1692). It survived in many different versions as a spiritual folk song and was included in von Arnim's and Brentano's collection “ Des Knaben Wunderhorn ” in 1808 under the title Maria, Gnadenmutter zu Freyberg . It only became a hymn in 1842 through two theologically sound changes in poetry: on the one hand, that of Johannes von Geissels ( Speyerer Gesangbuch , 1842) and, on the other hand, that Heinrich Bones ( Cantata! 1847). The song is printed under various text and melody versions in many separate parts of the praise of God .

Text versions

Laurentius von Schnüffis (1692)

Clorus, because of great love, very much demands that the most joyful and blessed face of the Mother of God be seen.
Ostend mihi faciem tuam.
Show me your face
Cant. 2.v.14.

1. Son = beautiful, splendid /
superpowerful heavenly woman /
which I will forever / bond
me as a servant / share
my life /
all be close by /
trust childlike:
for this duty of faithfulness
only show me your face.

Beautifully Magnificent at Heinrich Bone (1847)

1. Beautifully splendid,
lofty and powerful,
dearly blessed, heavenly woman, To whom
I
consecrate myself heartily,
body and soul trust me ;
Good, blood and life
I want to give you,
everything, whatever I have, what I am,
I give you with pleasure, Maria.

2. The innocent born, the
only chosen ,
you, God's daughter and mother and bride,
The
purest of the pure crowd, like none,
The Lord himself built himself for the temple;
You flawless
lily rose,
crown of the earth, the heavenly ornament,
heaven and earth they pay homage to you.

3. You faithful
and highly transfigured, You
are a guiding star on the sea for us;
You exalted, shrouded in
rays,
you are next to the throne of the Lord;
Mildness created you.
To the image of grace,
also that which includes heaven and earth,
mother of grace, Mary, greets you.

4. Theotokos of God,
savior-nourisher,
mother, so rich in joys and sorrows,
Which of the guilty
ones would your patient
mother ever be like in purity and virtue?
You
consecrated , blessed
mother and virgin, you are innocent alone, want to be
a mother to us sinners too!

5. Always meek,
gentle, good-natured,
mother of the Savior, full of grace and grace,
pray for us sinful
men, proclaim
forgiveness of guilt to us from the Son,
stand when we part,
you at our side, you
atone for the terrible judge '
Bring us to the divine Son!
