The Wurgwitz Town Hall is a listed building in the Freital district of Wurgwitz in the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district . Until 1974 it was the administrative seat of the municipality of Wurgwitz.

History and use

In the course of the unification of the two communities Wurgwitz and Niederhermsdorf on July 1, 1921, a new town hall was to be built that would meet the requirements of the growing community. Construction began in 1925 according to the plans of the Dresden architect Alfred Grummt on an open field between the New School and the house at Pesterwitzer Strasse 2. The construction costs amounted to approx. 100,000 Reichsmarks . Reliefs were attached to the entrance portal and gable, which are intended to remind of the agricultural character of the two places. A small tower was also built.

After the completion, the mayor of the community of Wurgwitz and a doctor moved in. For years food was cooked in the cellar for the neighboring school. A savings bank was also housed, but it closed around the turn of the millennium. With the incorporation of Wurgwitz into Freital in 1974, the city no longer used the building as a town hall. After the fall of the Wall , the former town hall came into private hands. The new owner completely renovated it and built apartments. After the Elbe flood in 2002 , a siren system to warn of danger was installed on the roof.
