In the 15th century there was a civil court in Calvörde, consisting of Schulzen, Schöppen and Rathmannen. Until 1571, the sovereignty of the state , including jurisdiction , was held by the respective pawnbroker in the Calvörde office ; Victor von Bülow is known as the last lien holder. Duke Julius redeemed the pledge in 1571 and created an orderly official constitution. It was directed by a princely official. He called himself a captain and later Droste . The Principality of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel was divided into four districts, Calvörde was assigned to the Schöninger district. The district court (already located in Neustadtstrasse) was headed from 1571 to 1746 initially by the chief clerk himself, then from 1746 by a legal adviser . The German art historian and museum specialist Wilhelm von Bode was born in this house on December 10, 1845. His father Wilhelm Benedict Sigismund Heinrich Bode was a judge in Calvörde at the time. Towards the end of World War II , Calvörde was occupied on April 12, 1945, first by US and then by English troops. On May 18, 1945, Calvörde became the district capital. On July 2, 1945, the Soviets invaded Calvörde as occupiers; the district court had no validity at the time of the occupation. On July 11, 1945, the former office of Calvörde was incorporated into the province of Saxony . The end of the district court was subsequently confirmed.

Todays use

Today the Heimatmuseum Heimatstube is located in the former district court . In 2011 the facade of the building was renovated.
