Xavier Givaudan

Xavier Givaudan (born February 8, 1867 in Caluire , † July 16, 1966 in Geneva ) was a French entrepreneur .

Life

Xavier Givaudan was born on February 8, 1867 in Caluire as the son of Evariste André Givaudan and Marie Thérèse Aurore, also born Givaudan. He first completed a degree in pharmacy . As a result, he and his brother Léon founded the Givaudan company in Zurich in 1895 , the headquarters of which were relocated to Geneva in 1898. To this end, another plant was built in Vernier . Givaudan was involved in the manufacture of pharmaceutical products, at the same time he supported his brother in his research on essential oils and synthetic fragrances .

After his brother was called up for military service in France in 1914 , he was made head of the Givaudan company in Vernier. In 1916, Givaudan moved to Geneva, where he was the driving force behind both the family business and the city's French colony. In addition, he chaired the Société de secours aux familles de mobilisés français from 1939 to 1945. Givaudan also chaired the French Chamber of Commerce in Switzerland and the board of the "Journal français" .

Xavier Givaudan was married to Marie nee Tournaire. He died on July 16, 1966, five months after he had turned 99 in Geneva.
