Xenia Marita Riebe

Xenia Marita Riebe (born March 5, 1957 in Mönchengladbach ) is a freelance artist in the field of painting and sculpture .

Youth and education

Xenia Marita Riebe grew up under the name Marita Cronen in Mönchengladbach. In 1992 and 1993 studied painting at the Zurich Art School (HGK). The series “ African rock painting and technology ” was created as early as 1993/94 , for which she traveled and studied the cave paintings of the Hohe Brandberg in Namibia , Africa . With this work on evolution , she first became known to a broad audience. Other politically motivated series of works followed, such as the “White Foreigners” series from 1997 and the “ Global Citizen Project” from 2004 .

Artistic creation

In series such as “ The Urbanized Woman ” she deals with the living conditions of women in large cities. The series “White Strangers” deals with the consequences of the exclusion of people regarding their origin, religion , skin color or education. The cycle “Klone” is a work on reproductive cloning of people and should be understood as a warning not to turn everything technically feasible into reality.

In her sculptural work she uses newspaper from all over the world as a material. Between 2004 and 2007 she created the world's population out of newsprint. For this project on globalization, she worked 200 characters from original newspapers from 200 countries around the world. The " Global Citizen Project " was first exhibited in June 2007. Mikhail Gorbachev was the most prominent guest at the opening of the exhibition .

Another series of sculptures is the series “Epigonier”, sculptures made of unprinted newspaper that live on the fictional planet Epigonia. Xenia Marita Riebe has been an artist at the “arstudio” gallery in Knokke (Belgium) since 2005 . Your work will be presented at the international art fair "lineart" in Ghent . Since 1995 she has presented her works to a broad public in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad. In 2007, B. Kühlen Verlag published an art book on her “Global Citizen Project”. She works in her studio in Mönchengladbach.
