Hedehusum (Frisian: Hedehüsem, Danish Hedehusum ) is a district of the municipality of Utersum on the North Sea island of Föhr .

geography

Hedehusum is east of Utersum and west of Witsum on the Geest . The place has almost 100 inhabitants. It is around 500 meters to the North Sea in the south. There is a two meter high demolition edge there.

history

There are numerous barrows from the Bronze Age and the Viking Age near Hedehusum .

Hedehusum was first mentioned in a document in 1462. The place name can be traced back to hede , “Heide”, and husum , “home”.

In 1920, Hedehusum was one of three municipalities in the Westerlandföhr office , which in Zone II voted in favor of a move to Denmark in the referendum after the First World War. In 1970 Hedehusum was incorporated into the Utersum community. In 1971 the place had 100 inhabitants, all workers were employed in agriculture. This made Hedehusum the only place on Föhr without tourism. Since then, the accommodation options have been expanded.

The community had an area of ​​1.36 km².

On the cut-off date of the census on May 25, 1987, the village of Hedehusum had 81 inhabitants in 28 households.

Economy and Transport

Main industries are tourism and agriculture. The national road 214, "Rundföhrstraße" performs Hedehusum.
