history
The name Xōchitepēc comes from the Nahuatl and is composed of the words xōchi (flower), tepē- (hill) and -c (im, on) and therefore means something like "on the flower hill".
Within the municipality of Xochitepec there is the pre-Columbian archaeological excavation site Zazacatla , which was declared the cultural heritage of Morelos in 2007 and which the municipality hopes to create a major tourism trend.
The Franciscan Monastery of San Juan Evangelista , built in the 16th century, is an imposing building from the post-Columbian era .
Soccer
With the completion of the Mariano Matamoros stadium, which can hold around 18,000 spectators, in 2002, the CF Cuernavaca Colibries football club, which was founded in December 2002 and bought the right to participate in the top division immediately , was lured here to host its home games.
After this club was dissolved again due to significant financial problems, the stadium was only home to third and fourth division clubs. In the 2006/07 and 2007/08 seasons, the football club CF Galeana Morelos played its home games in the third-class Segunda Division and, after a league reform, only in the fourth-tier Tercera Division . There they took first place in their group at the end of the 2008/09 season, but failed in the subsequent promotion round and relocated their home ground to the older and smaller Estadio Centenario in Cuernavaca before the 2009/10 season , while Tecamac- based third division CA Eca Norte his Home games recently played at the Estadio Mariano Matamoros .
The Mexican international Gerardo Flores Zúñiga was born in 1986 in Xochitepec.
