CF Cuernavaca Los Colibríes
The Club de Fútbol Cuernavaca , better known by its additional name Colibríes ( hummingbirds ) or as Colibríes de Morelos , was a Mexican football club from the state of Morelos . His official club headquarters was in the federal capital Cuernavaca , while his home ground, the Estadio Mariano Matamoros , was in the suburb of Xochitepec . Although the club only existed for a few months, he played in the Primera División , the top division of Mexican club football.
history
Before the start of the clausura of the 2002/03 season, a financially strong entrepreneur from Morelos acquired the first division license of Club Atlético Celaya and thus laid the foundation for the establishment of CF Cuernavaca on December 10, 2002. But from the beginning, the test tube club faced major problems, on which he ultimately failed. His original plan to play in the city of Zacatepec failed due to the decided veto of the traditional club CD Zacatepec based there . But his internal problems should be far more serious.
First of all, it was planned that the coach Carlos Trucco, who was previously under contract with Atlético Celaya, would take over the new team. But he resigned on January 7, 2003 - just five days before the Colibríes' first game. So quick action was necessary so that one could be happy to have at least found a coach in Sergio Rubio, even if he had no first division experience. Nevertheless, they got off to an extremely promising start, winning their first game at the UNAM Pumas 3-1 and the following first home game 3-0 against UAG Tecos . After four match days, the Colibríes had already booked nine points. But because only two more points had been added from the next six games, coach Rubio announced his resignation. He was replaced by the Croatian Zlatko Petricevic, who, however, claimed to have recognized a conspiracy of some players against him after two games , with the player Mario Grana allegedly even assaulting him. Petricevic said goodbye and the club managed to get Rubio back in his distress. But he also threw down the begging after three more games.
As if the coaching carousel hadn't already burdened the club enough, the players ran onto the field on matchday 15 (the last working day of coach Rubio) with jerseys marked "Basta de Mentiras" (roughly: Enough of lies ) were provided. The background to this action was that allegedly promised payments were not made. For the last four games Rubio's previous assistant coaches Rodolfo Sotelo and Felipe Ocampo took over the team, which in the end would have managed to stay in the league with 6 wins and 8 defeats despite all the turbulence, if the score of CA Celaya had not been included in the evaluation, which led to the club's relegation to the second division. As if that weren't enough, the FMF sentenced the player Jorge Rodríguez to a heavy fine for repeatedly insulting the referee. When he had not transferred his sentence within the set deadline and the club only exercised restraint, the FMF withdrew the Colibríes' right to play in the second division and gave them to another club called Trotamundos Tijuana , which also only existed for a short time . Thus the story of the Colibríes had come to a quick end.
