The Estadio Mariano Matamoros is a football stadium in the small town of Xochitepec in the Mexican state of Morelos .

history

The stadium opened in 1981 and is part of a large sports complex that includes additional football and basketball courts as well as a swimming pool and parking spaces for 7,000 people. The sports complex is located directly on the highway that connects Cuernavaca with Acapulco .

In the Clausura 2003 , the Estadio Mariano Matamoros served as the venue for the Mexican Primera División , when the newly founded team of CF Cuernavaca Colibries played their nine home games in the highest Mexican football league there .

The stadium, named after Mariano Matamoros , a hero of the Mexican War of Independence , is currently used by the first and second teams of CF Ballenas Galeana .
