Xu Xilin

Xu Xilin ( traditional : 徐錫麟; simplified : 徐锡麟; Pinyin xú xīlín; * 1873 ; † July 7, 1907 ) was a Chinese revolutionary leader in the late Qing Dynasty .

He was born in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province in 1873 . In 1893 he acquired the Xiucai , the lowest degree in the traditional Chinese examination system, and has worked as a teacher in the local school since 1900.

During his trip to Japan in 1903, he helped save the famous scholar Zhang Taiyan , who was imprisoned for his revolutionary ideas against the Qing Dynasty. He had also made contact with other Chinese revolutionaries in exile, primarily through his cousin Qiu Jin . After returning to Shanghai in 1904, he joined Guang Fu Hui and in the same year began setting up many schools in Zhejiang Province to organize local rebels.

In 1906 he bought a middle-ranking government post and was transferred to Anhui Province . He also wanted to win the army for the revolution there. In 1907 he was promoted to head of the local police and police school and began to implement his revolutionary plan. A riot was planned on July 19, 1907. After this plan was betrayed, he decided to start the rebellion early on July 6 at the graduation ceremony of the police school. En Ming , the governor of Anhui Province, was shot dead in the riot. After a four-hour fight, he succumbed to the superiority of his opponents and was arrested. The next day he was executed .
