Jael Dajan
Jael Dajan ( Hebrew יעל דיין, Born December 2, 1939 in Nahalal ) is an Israeli writer and politician.
Life
Jael Dajan is the granddaughter of the politician and Knesset MP Shmuel Dajan and daughter of General Moshe Dajan , who is considered one of the founding fathers of the State of Israel. After basic training, she served as a lieutenant in the office of the Israel Defense Forces press secretary . She then studied international relations at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and biology at the Open University. After completing her studies, she made a name for herself as a book author and columnist.
Dayan was elected to the Knesset in 1992, 1996 and 1999 . As a parliamentarian, she was an advocate for the rights of women and homosexuals, in particular she campaigned for legislation against sexual harassment.
Jael Dajan was and is a sharp critic of the occupation of Palestinian territories . For many years she was part of the leadership of the peace organization Shalom Achshaw ( Peace Now ).
Since 2004 she has been responsible for social services as Deputy Mayor of Tel Aviv .
Dajan is divorced and has two children.
