from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Al Yah Satellite Communications Company ( YahSat ) is the name of a satellite operator based in Abu Dhabi . Yahsat operates a system consisting of the satellites YahSat 1A and YahSat 1B as well as Al Yah 3 .

System description

YahSat 1A was April 22, 2011 with a launch vehicle of the type 5 ECA Ariane launch next. The second satellite, YahSat 1B , followed on April 23, 2012 on board a Proton-M / Bris-M . YahSat 1A was positioned at 52.5 ° East in geostationary orbit above the equator and is intended to provide communications services to the Middle East and North Africa from there . The satellites serve the commercial market on the one hand, but also provide capacities for government needs on the other. In addition to internet services, television channels, including HDTV , are to be transmitted via these satellites .

The construction of the Al Yah 3 satellite was commissioned by Orbital Sciences Corporation . It was launched on January 25, 2018 with an Ariane 5 ECA , but due to a malfunction of the launcher, it was placed in a suboptimal orbit with a significantly too high orbit inclination . With its fuel reserves, it will be able to achieve the planned target orbit, but it is currently unclear whether the planned service life of 15 years can be achieved with it.Template: future / in 5 years
