List of geostationary satellites

YahSat 1A is the name of a communication satellite . The operator is the Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat) based in Abu Dhabi . The overall system consists of two satellites: YahSat 1A and YahSat 1B .

mission

YahSat 1A was launched on April 22, 2011 at 21:37 UTC with an Ariane 5 ECA from the Center Spatial Guyanais together with New Dawn . YahSat 1B followed on April 23, 2012 on board a Proton-M . YahSat 1A was positioned at 52.5 ° East in geostationary orbit above the equator and is intended to provide communications services to the Middle East and North Africa from there . The satellites serve the commercial market on the one hand, but also provide capacities for government needs on the other. In addition to internet services, television channels, including HDTV , are to be transmitted via these satellites . Afghan, Arab, Kurdish and Persian channels are broadcast.

The Russian satellite Express AM6 is in the immediate vicinity at 53 ° East and the Turkmen-Monegasque Turkmen- Elem at 52 ° East . These are partly used by Arab and Afghan broadcasters as a supplement to YahSat 1A. Express AM6 and the East Beam from TürkmenÄlem used by Afghan transmitters have the advantage that many transmitters can be received from there in Germany with little effort. The reception of YahSat 1A as well as the MENA beam used by Arab broadcasters from TürkmenÄlem in Germany is, however, only possible with considerable effort.
