Yakuza 2 ( Japanese 龍 が 如 く 2 , Ryū ga Gotoku 2 ) is a computer game first released in Japan in 2006 and the successor to Yakuza . The action-adventure game from Sega was released in the West in September 2008 and proved to be a commercial failure due to its late release as well as its niche subject matter. In Japan, however, the game was a success with 500,000 units sold.
In 2009 the series continued with Yakuza 3 .
action
After Kazuma Kiryu renounced the chairmanship of the Tojo clan, he actually wanted to lead a peaceful, normal life with Haruka Sawamura, the daughter of his childhood sweetheart Yumi. But his past caught up with him a year later.
When he and Haruka visit the graves of Yumi, Akira "Nishiki" Nishikiyama and Shintaro Kazama, Kazuma meets Yukio Terada, whom he has appointed as the new chairman of the Tojo clan. He asks Kazuma for help. The relationship between the still ailing Tojo clan and the influential Omi family (who previously supported Nishiki's drive for power) is extremely tense. Since Terada used to be a member of the Granny himself, he is not respected by her, which is why an imminent war between the clans is becoming increasingly likely. Suddenly, granny assassins appear in the cemetery, shoot Terada and also want to kill Kazuma, but are overwhelmed by him. To ensure their safety, Hakura is placed back in the Sunflower Orphanage for the time being, while Kazuma goes to Osaka on behalf of the Tojo clan to prevent the worst.
Gameplay
The gameplay basically corresponds to that of its predecessor: in a limited interactive, open game world , adventure elements alternate with fistfights.
What is new, however, is the change in location. While the first part played exclusively in the fictional Tokyo city of Kamurocho, this time the two equally fictional metropolises Ōsakas , Sōtenbori (designed based on the model of Dōtonbori ) and Shinseicho (designed based on the model of Shinsekai ) can be visited and explored. The range of mini-games known and loved from the first yakuza has been expanded accordingly, and the cities in Ōsaka are also offering additional bars, clubs and cabarets with new hostesses .
Problems of the Japanese first edition
In Japan, Yakuza 2 originally appeared on two regular DVD-ROMs. By dividing the game files, however, a serious error crept in, which could make it impossible to play through by corrupting the saved games.
All later reprints (in the PlayStation3 the Best series) were, like the western publications, delivered on a double-layer DVD-ROM, which effectively eliminated the bug.
