Yamandu Fau

Yamandú Fau (born March 21, 1945 ) is a Uruguayan politician .

Yamandú Fau originally began his political career in the Partido Colorado , but switched to the camp of the Frente Amplio . As the representative of the Montevideo Department in the 42nd legislative period from February 15, 1985 to February 14, 1990, he held a titular mandate as a member of the Cámara de Representantes . In between he was also briefly deputy senator in the Cámara de Senadores from September 13, 1988 to October 13, 1988 . He held each mandate as a representative of the Partido Demócrata Cristiano in the Frente Amplio. He was also the holder of a titular mandate for Montevideo in the Chamber of Deputies for the entire 43rd and 44th legislative periods. However, he sat there in the first-mentioned section now for the Partido por el Gobierno del Pueblo , where he was the third vice president of the Cámara de Representantes in 1992. In the second interval, Fau was back in the Partido Colorado. In that period, from August 18, 1998 to March 1, 2000, he was appointed head of the Ministry of Education and Culture. For the Partido Colorado he then held a mandate as deputy senator from March 1, 2000 to October 1, 2002 in the 45th legislative period. A few days after the death of his predecessor Luis Brezzo , Fau was appointed Minister of Defense on September 26, 2002 and carried out this task until March 1, 2005.
