The Yampa River is a 402 km long tributary of the Green River in the US state of Colorado and belongs to the river system of the Colorado River .
The Yampa River rises in northwest Colorado in the Routt National Forest in southeast Garfield County and then flows northeast. At Steambot Springs it makes a turn and now flows west. The Elk River flows into the Yampa River near the village of Milner . It then flows through the Williams Fork Mountains . At Craig , the Little Snake River flows into the river after 150 miles. Within the Dinosaur National Monument , the Yampa River flows into the Green River.
