Yan Lianke (2010)

Yan Lianke ( Chinese 阎连科 ; * August 24, 1958 ) is an important contemporary Chinese writer .

biography

Yan lianke in 1958 in the district of Song of the city of Luoyang in the province Henan born. In 1978 he joined the People's Liberation Army . In 1985 he graduated from Hénán University, and in 1991 he graduated from the People's Liberation Army Art School in literature. Yan Lianke lives in Beijing .

Yan Lianke is the recipient of the Lu Xun Literature Prize. In 2005 he was awarded the Lao She Literature Prize for his novel Shòu huó «受 活» .

In 2006, Yan's novel Dīng zhuāng mèng "丁 庄 梦" ("The dream of the village thing"; in German translation: My grandfather's dream ) caused a sensation. In this novel he describes how the farmers of a village in Henan donate blood for money in order to keep up with the economic boom in the absence of other sources of income. A few years later it turns out that almost the entire population has been infected with AIDS , and now only the coffin dealers benefit from the new freedoms of capitalism .

In 2011, Yan's novel Si Shu "四 书" was published; ( The Four Books (2015); in German translation: The Four Books (2017)). The novel was shortlisted for the Man Booker International Prize 2017 and was awarded the Franz Kafka Literature Prize in 2014. The book deals with Mao's Great Leap and the Great Chinese Famine and is banned in China.

Both My Grandfather's Dream and Serving the People and The Four Books have been on the Chinese index for years .
