The Yanbian University ( Chinese 延边 大学 , Pinyin Yanbian Dàxué ; Korean: 연변 대학 - Yeonbyeon Daehak ) is a state university in the People's Republic of China founded on March 20, 1949 . It is based in Yanji , the capital of the Koreans' Yanbian Autonomous District .
history
The university was founded two months after the Communist troops marched into Beijing on March 20, 1949. As a Korean- and Chinese-speaking university, its mission is to provide higher education for the Korean minority.
overview
Yanbian University is one of the universities in Project 211 and in 2004 had around 16,500 students and almost 1,500 academic staff. Around 400 students came from abroad, most of them from South Korea , Japan , the United States and Russia . It consists of 12 faculties.
International cooperation
Yanbian University works with major South Korean universities and some North Korean scientific institutes on an international level.
