Yandex.Maps ( Russian Яндекс.Карты / Yandex.Karty ) is an online geodata service , route planner and navigation software from the Russian company Yandex . It makes it possible to find addresses, places, hotels, restaurants and other objects on a world map. The service started on August 27, 2004, around half a year before Google Maps . The service is the market leader in Russia in this area. After Yandex.Maps was only available in Russian for a long time, the service has now been translated into numerous languages, including English , Turkish and Ukrainian .

Yandex.Maps is similar in terms of its functionality to comparable services such as Google Maps , Here and Bing Maps . The user can choose between a pure map view, a satellite image and a hybrid view that uses the satellite image, but also shows place and street names. The image section can be moved freely and there is also a selection function for the desired scale . An integrated search can be used to search for addresses, but also for the name of a restaurant or shop. The integrated route planner enables the creation of a travel route. It is also possible to move freely on the map or image section without a search term.
Since 2009 there has also been an additional panorama service based on Google Street View called Yandex.Panorama (Russian Яндекс.Панорамы), which can be called up within Yandex.Maps. Street views from cities in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Turkey can also be called up. The additional service Yandex.Traffic also provides information on the volume of traffic. Yandex.Maps also exists as a mobile app for several operating systems, including iOS and Android .
Yandex.Maps can also be integrated into external websites via a programming interface . It is used by TripAdvisor , among others .

The geodata material for Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and the Ukraine is created by Yandex itself, data for other countries come from Navteq , among others . This enables global navigation with the help of Yandex.Maps. It reflects the political geography after the Russian recognitions. The Crimea belongs to Russia and Abkhazia is shown as a separate state.
