The Yaqu Pacha Society (pronounced: jaku patscha) was founded in Nuremberg in 1992 with the aim of protecting the aquatic mammals of South America and preserving their habitats. The focus is on long-term projects in South America.

Yaqu Pacha is a modification of the Quechua or Kichwa expression yaku pacha , which means "water world" (see hydrosphere ).

The goals of Yaqu Pacha include:

From 2007 Yaqu Pacha presented the campaign "DEADLINE - The sea wants to live" together with the Nuremberg Zoo , the Zoo Duisburg , the Aquazoo Dusseldorf , the Dolphinarium Munster in Münster Zoo , WAZA ( World Association of Zoos and Aquariums ) and mares (diving Manufacturer ). It was about the situation of the world's oceans: overfishing , pollution , underwater noise , bycatch problems . The basis of this campaign was a study carried out by Boris Worm which showed that by 2048 (if no rethinking takes place) all currently used fish, mussel or crustacean grounds would have collapsed.
