The Yates Spur is a prominent mountain ridge on the Bowman Coast of Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula . On the south bank of Mobiloil Inlet, it rises on the western flank of the mouth of the Earnshaw Glacier .
Aerial photographs of overflights were taken in 1935 by the US polar explorer Lincoln Ellsworth , in 1940 with the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939-1941) and in 1947 with the US Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947-1948). Scientists from the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey conducted surveys in 1958. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1977 after David Kent Yates (* 1935) of the University of Texas at Austin , who had been part of the United States Geological Survey team on satellite geodesy at Palmer Station in the winter of 1973 .
