Yazi Tura - Head or Tails is a Turkish film from 2004. Uğur Yücel wrote the screenplay and directed it at the same time. In Germany , the war returning drama was shown in cinemas for the first time on November 24, 2005.

action

Ridvan from Cappadocia and Cevher from Istanbul began their military service in 1999. Both fought on the front in southeastern Turkey against the Kurdish rebels. After their military service, both return to their hometowns, torn by the war. Ridvan has lost his right leg in a mine explosion and finds that neither his fiancée nor his friends have remained the same. The young man falls into a deep emotional crisis.

Cevher, who has been deaf in one ear since the same mine explosion, dreams of opening a kiosk. When he loses family members after the devastating earthquake in Istanbul and his laboriously built shop is destroyed, he gets on the wrong track.

Artistic execution

Most of the film is in a documentary style with uneasy handheld camera images. It has a strong visual focus, the dialogues hardly go beyond simple everyday language.

Flashbacks are used to illustrate the military deployment of the two returnees , which connects the two episodes of the film, which are otherwise separate.

background

  • The film costs were around 1.5 million euros.
