Audio file / audio sample Jedi'ot Acharonot ? / i (Hebrew ידיעות אחרונות, English Yedioth Ahronoth ) is a Hebrew- language daily newspaper in Israel . The name translates as "Latest News". Jedi'ot Acharonot has been the country's highest-circulation and most-read daily newspaper since the 1970s (ahead of Maariw and Haaretz ), but was ousted to second place by Israel HaYom in 2010 .

The paper was founded on December 11, 1939 by Nachum Komarov as one of the first private newspapers in Israel. A short time later, Yehuda Mozes took over the newspaper. The first managing director was his son Noah Mozes. It appeared twice a day for the first few years. The editor today is Arnon Mozes, the son of Noah Mozes.

One of the first editors-in-chief was the Leipzig-born journalist Ezriel Carlebach (1909–1956), who left the paper with a group of journalists in 1948 and founded his own newspaper Jedi'ot Maariw , which is now the biggest competitor (to avoid confusion, later in Maariw renamed). Carlebach's successor at Jedi'ot Acharonot was Herzl Rosenblum . Rosenblum's son, Moshe Vardi, was editor-in-chief for 13 years, and in 2005 he was replaced by Rafi Ginat. Shilo De-Beer has held this position since April 2007. Among the previous correspondents was Elie Wiesel , Nobel Peace Prize Laureate in 1986, who reported from Paris from 1952 and from 1956 from the United Nations in New York.

Jedi'ot Acharonot achieved a penetration rate of around 34% on working days and around 49% on Fridays. It is read by more than half of all readers of Hebrew language newspapers. Jedi'ot Acharonot is the flagship of the Jedi'ot group , which is majority owned by the Mozes and Fishman families and is now the largest press and book publisher in Israel.

The newspaper's political orientation is considered to be moderately conservative. Since the founding of the Kadima party in 2005, benevolent comments have often been read about the policies of its top politicians such as Ariel Sharon , Tzipi Livni and Schaul Mofas .
