Jehudit Naot ( Hebrew יהודית נאות; * April 4, 1944 in Kirjat Chajim in Hebrew קרית חיים, League of Nations mandate for Palestine , today a district in the west of Haifa; † December 16, 2004 in Haifa , Israel ) was an Israeli biologist and politician .

biography

Yehudit Naot was born in Kirjat Chajim near the city of Haifa . She studied chemistry and biology at Technion , Israel's technical university, and then worked at the university. There she was also appointed professor. In 1975 she joined the Zionist, secular and liberal Shinui party , which was founded under the influence of the Yom Kippur War in 1974. She worked for Shinui in local politics for a long time, including as Deputy Mayor of Haifa from 1989 to 1991 and from 1993 to 1996.

She was Minister of Environment from February 2003 to October 2004 . During her tenure, she was diagnosed with cancer of the larynx , from which she eventually died.

Naot was married and had three children.
