Jig'al Bibi

Jig'al Bibi ( Hebrew יגאל ביבי, * January 21, 1942 in Tiberias ) is a former Israeli politician and Knesset member of the National Religious Party ( Mafdal ) from 1988 to 2003.

Life

He studied at Bnei Akiva Talmudic College, and then earned a BA in Political Science and Jewish History from Bar-Ilan University . After that he worked as a teacher.

He became mayor of Tiberias. In 1988 he became a member of the Knesset for the first time, becoming Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Office (from August 1990 to November 1990) and Deputy Environment Minister (from November 1990 to 1992).

In 1992 he was re-elected. After his re-election in 1996, he became Deputy Minister in the PM's Office (July to August 1996) and Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs (August 1996 to January 1998, and February 1998 to 1999).

In the 1999 elections, he was ranked fourth on the NRP's electoral list and rejoined the Knesset. He was again Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs (August 1999 to July 2000).
