Yishai Schlissel ( Hebrew ישי שליסל, * 1965 or 1975 ) is a convicted Israeli assassin . In 2005 he attacked in Modi'in Illit ( Hebrew מודיעין עילית) Resident ultra - Orthodox Jews took part in the Jerusalem Pride Parade with a knife and injured three people. For this act he was sentenced to twelve years in prison. The sentence was reduced to ten years in 2007. Three weeks after his release from prison, he again attacked participants with a knife during the 2015 Jerusalem Pride Parade, despite massive security measures. He injured six people, two of them seriously, of which a 16-year-old participant died. Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu , President Reuven Rivlin , Jerusalem's Mayor Nir Barkat and Israel's Grand Rabbi condemned the act as a hate crime . The Guardian described the incident as "the worst incident of homophobic violence in the city in ten years".

The Jerusalem District Court convicted Schlissel in April 2016 of the murder of the 16-year-old and of attempted murder in six cases. The sentence was set in June 2016 and Schlissel was sentenced to life imprisonment.
